Mick's figurative sculptures express the freedom we have to enjoy the world, revelling in movement, fecundity and life. "Wood is the material I naturally turn to in expressing myself."
A love of medieval church sculpture, and in particular an obsession with the Green Man archetype, has helped Mick to express through his woodcarvings the serious role we have in caring for the planet.
Being born to artist parents, living on a smallholding, then working in forestry on leaving school have all led Mick to an enduring love of the natural world and of man's interaction with and place within that world.
The swiftness of direct plaster, casting from clay originals, and the use of steel, have opened to him other avenues of sculptural expression as a member of the Bicester Sculpture Group. e-mail Mick at: Mickwaterhouse@yahoo.co.uk
